Challenge Mode

Deadlines change everything. Use them.

Some goals need a finish line. Add a deadline to any Goal and ProtoHabit unlocks Challenge Mode — a countdown, a day-by-day checklist, calendar view, and a projection that tells you honestly whether you will make it.

What a deadline unlocks

Add a deadline (and optionally a measurable target) to any Goal and it switches into Challenge Mode. The Goal screen gains a countdown pill, a day-by-day checklist scoped to the finish line, a calendar view of every remaining day, and a projection graph tracking whether your pace will get you there.

A countdown that reframes time

"Someday" is where goals go to die; "47 mornings left" is a plan. The countdown converts an abstract date into a concrete, dwindling supply of chances — the exact reframe deadline research says drives action.

The projection keeps you honest

Challenge Mode’s S-curve projection extrapolates from what you have actually done, not what you intended. When the projected finish lands short of the target, you know with weeks to spare — time to add a habit, raise your difficulty, or adjust the target deliberately instead of abandoning the goal silently.

A real finish line, properly celebrated

Cross the line and ProtoHabit celebrates — confetti, badge, the works. Then the useful question: archive the Goal, or roll it forward with a new deadline and a bigger target? Challenges are repeatable by design; many users run their year as a chain of them.

FAQ

Challenge Mode: your questions, answered

What is Challenge Mode in ProtoHabit?

Challenge Mode is what a Goal becomes when you give it a deadline: a countdown, a daily checklist, a calendar view of the remaining days, progress projection toward your target, and a celebration when you finish.

Can I change the deadline after starting a challenge?

Yes — deadlines and targets stay editable. The honest playbook: adjust the input (habits, difficulty) first, the target second, and the date only deliberately. The projection graph updates instantly either way.

What kinds of targets can a challenge track?

Any measurable number — weight, money saved, distance, pages, sessions — or simply consistent habit completion by the date. Targets pair with the projection graph to show whether your current pace reaches them.

What happens when a challenge ends?

ProtoHabit marks the finish with a celebration and the Goal’s full history stays in your insights. You can archive it, or relaunch it with a new deadline — habits, structure and momentum intact.
